Trip to Lonavala with Self Drive car rentals

Lonavala, often called the "Jewel of Sahyadri" or the "City of Caves," is a charming hill station located over 2,000 feet above sea level in Maharashtra's Sahyadri range. Its strategic location, just 60-80 km from Mumbai and Pune, makes it a popular getaway. The name Lonavala comes from the Sanskrit word 'Lonavali,' meaning a group of caves. Once part of the Yadava dynasty, it later came under Mughal and Maratha rule.

Exactly a month ago, I was exploring the breathtaking Hill station of Lonavala in Maharashtra. If you're planning a trip there, this post will provide all the essential tips and information you need. If you're planning a trip to Lonavala with Self-drive car rentals, this post will provide all the essential tips and information you need.

This place is pure magic! Not only is the scenery amazing, but the food is delicious, the people are super welcoming, and the weather is just right. Here are some of my favorite spots in Lonavala that I highly recommend.

Driving down the highway, you'll see waterfalls everywhere, some huge, some tiny, but all equally mesmerizing. The roads are flanked by lush green landscapes, and trust me, no words can truly capture the beauty.

Once you reach Lonavala, don't forget to grab some chikkis and fudge, as the town is famous for them. On the way to Bhushi Dam, you'll pass Lonavala Lake, which is breathtaking during monsoon, as it fills up only during this season. Bhushi Dam itself is a must-visit, offering a fun experience for both kids and adults. The area is a peaceful retreat, offering visitors a chance to enjoy a picnic, take a nature walk, and simply relax by the water. The monsoon months enhance the beauty of this place, turning it into a flowing wonderland. Visitors can step into the shallow waters, but caution is needed due to slippery terrain. An excellent place for photography as well.

One of my favorite stops is Tiger point. The view is fantastic, and I never miss grabbing some corn pakoras with chai, it's the ultimate monsoon snack! And the best part? Driving through clouds so low, it feels like you're floating. So if you're visiting, a trip to Lonavala with self-drive car rentals is the best way to explore. Just don't forget to carry a jacket, it gets quite cold up here!

I had heard plenty about this famous viewpoint, Lion's point, but experiencing it firsthand was something I'll never forget. I went there on a monsoon weekend, and the energy of the place was infectious. As I reached the edge off the cliff, I was instantly mesmerized by the spectacular view, green hills, beautiful waterfalls, and misty valleys stretching as far as the eye could see.

The location is easy to find, situated just a short drive off the Lonavala-Aamby Valley road. The moment I stepped out of my car, I felt the cool, powerful breeze that makes the place so thrilling. The site is well-maintained, with some safety railings in place, but I noticed a few people trying to cross them for better pictures. Lion's Point was one of the most memorable stops on my trip to Lonavala with self-drive car rentals. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the region.

Our final stop for the day was the Celebrity Wax Museum, a must-visit attraction featuring lifelike wax figures of Asha Bhosale, Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Mr. Bean, and even Shaktiman! The statues are so detailed that they look almost real in pictures, making it a fun place to capture memories. The museum operates from 9 am to 9: 30 pm, with an entry fee of 100 rupees.

After exploring all day, we headed back to our villa where we feasted on delicious roasted and grilled chicken. Sitting on the balcony with good food and great company made for a memorable evening. Loud music was allowed, so we played our favorite tracks and had an amazing time!

Conclusion

Lonavala’s beauty, from misty hills to cascading waterfalls, makes it a perfect getaway. Whether for adventure or relaxation, this charming hill station offers unforgettable experiences in every season.
